A lot has changed in the 14 years since A Perfect Circle's last album, but to mark their latest effort, Eat the Elephant, the band is ahead of the curve by releasing the first hologram album.

The band teamed up with Sundance award-winning filmmaker Steven Sebring for the unique addition to their deluxe box set offering of the disc. In the unboxing video above, you can see exactly how the whole thing works, with a special card providing instructions on how to access the feature via a prism, included in the boxset. The prism, when placed on a smartphone, generates a holographic accompaniment to the album.

In all, the hologram tells the story through a young girl's eyes that plays out over the disc's 12 songs. A visual sample of the hologram imagery can be viewed in the unboxing player above.

“Having Maynard [James Keenan] and Billy [Howerdel]’s trust to create this for A Perfect Circle was a true artist’s dream,” said Sebring. “Their 14-year break allowed technology to catch up with their groundbreaking music and gave me the chance to apply new ideas of dimensional capture to this stunning album."

It was a solid opening week for A Perfect Circle as Eat the Elephant is set to debut at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. The disc also topped the Rock, Independent and Alternative Album charts.
