Police in China saved a newborn baby by pulling her out of a public toilet on Sunday.

Authorities in Beijing were notified after people heard the girl crying. A police official said, "Her head was upside down and her body was falling into the drain. We could only vaguely see her feet from the side."

After the baby, who was nearly trapped in a horizontal pipe, was pulled to safety, she was taken to a local hospital. She was listed in stable condition and does not appear to have suffered any trauma.

The baby's parents have not been found. Mothers who are not married in China have been known to abandon their children due to the negative impression people have toward out-of-wedlock kids in the country.
