Ace Frehley Talks Paul Stanley, Slash, Lita Ford, John 5 + More on ‘Origins Vol. 1′
KISS legend Ace Frehley’s new covers album, Origins Vol. 1, will hit shelves on April 15. The record is filled to the brim with guest appearances from legendary musicians, so we invited Ace back to our studio to discuss the album.
The collaboration KISS fans have been drooling over is Ace’s take on Free’s “Fire and Water,” which features former bandmate Paul Stanley. Ace talks all about how his mini reunion with Stanley came about and why they were unable to physically get into the studio together.
Thankfully, Ace lured plenty of icons into the studio with him. Lita Ford is one of them, who twisted the Troggs’ classic “Wild Thing” to give it a female perspective. Ford also handled the guitar work on the cut.
Speaking of guitarists, Slash also stepped in the studio with Ace to record Thin Lizzy’s “Emerald” with KISS’ space man. Ace tells us how he and Slash decided to throw guitar lines back and forth at each other, creating a lush call-and-response with a true live feel. Ace worked heavily with John 5 as well, as the shredder took on Jimi Hendrix’s “Spanish Castle Magic” and one of Ace’s signature KISS songs, “Parasite.”
Will there be an Origins Vol. 2? Ace answers that question in this exclusive interview. He even asked who we think he should cover next and we’re fairly sure you’ll all support our answer.
