President Obama has sent Labor Secretary Tom Perez to California to help mediate negotiations in the West Coast ports labor dispute. Washington Congressman Dan Newhouse is encouraged by the administration’s response to calls for stepped-up involvement to address the dispute that has crippled the West Coast’s export economy. He strongly urges both parties to remain at the negotiating table until a resolution is quickly reached to end the prospect of an even more damaging long-term port shutdown.

The National FFA Organization has awarded nearly $330,000 in grants to start new service-learning projects or sustain existing programs that students across the U.S. have created to fight hunger in their local communities. A total of 138 FFA chapters received up to $2,500 in Food for All grants this year. Through the help of Food for All grants last year - recipients donated more than 185,000 pounds of fresh produce, meat and eggs.
