"Norman" is a new form of monster created by man, and many, many internet users! Are you one of them? If you post on the Reddit forums, then you just might be.

A team of scientists at M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) have been having fun with different types of Artificial Intelligence for years. Creating creepy AI's like the horror story-writing bot Shelley or the scary imagery generating Nightmare Machine! Well this time they created Norman (named after the "Psycho" movie character), the machine-learning AI that "sees death in whatever image it looks at," commented the creators.

Pinar Yanardag, Manuel Cebrian and Iyad Rahwan had a theory that an artificial intelligence algorithm would be influenced by the kind of content fed to it. So of course they went to the internet forum Reddit for it's inspiration and had Norman read image captions that features disturbing footage of people dying.

Then the team showed Norman random inkblot tests and compared results against normal AI. For example, where a normal AI would see "A black and white photo of a small bird," Norman would see, "Man gets pulled into a dough machine." The HuffPost has more of the creepy inkblot responses for your viewing and nightmare pleasures.
