I've spent a lot of time this week thinking about how I felt about Colin Kaepernick's public stand against standing during the national anthem at a San Francisco 49ers pre-season game. I thought he could have gotten his point across without disrespecting the flag. Of course the price for free speech is giving the right of people we disagree with to say what they want. On the flip side, it is also the right for everyone who disagrees with Kaepernick to exercise their free speech and they are doing so all over the internet and otherwise.

A lot of people have said "you make $19 million per year, why are YOU complaining?" Agree or disagree with him, it takes some stones to take a stand like that when you have way more to lose than everyone else. Look at Natalie Maines and The Dixie Chicks. I try to think about the ideal of what the flag and national anthem are supposed to mean. Freedom for all, even though, we as people don't always live up to that. That is why I stand. But In doing so I'm also standing for Colin's right to sit down.
