Everyone knows Anthrax singer Joey Belladonna has a great classic rock, high tenor voice. In 2013 he sang a version of Journey's "Keep on Running'" along with other '80s hits. So it should come as no surprise that on Aug. 7, after Anthrax's set opening for Slayer on their farewell tour, Belladonna left Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan to sing some Journey hits at a local bar.

Lamb of God and Slayer fans missed the showcase, but for those who couldn't get tickets to Slayer or hit Founders Brewing Co.'s "Founders Open Mic," opting for beer over bombast, they got a hell of a surprise from Belladonna, who performed karaoke for the small crowd.

"They were like, 'Hey the dude from Anthrax wants to sing. Is that cool,'" said the emcee who introduced Belladonna in the video above. "I was like, "Fuck yeah, that's cool. Are you guys with me?"

The singer's 10-plus minute set started with "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)," and finished with a spot-on version of the ballad "Lights." If Arnel Pineda ever decides to quit the band, Joey should be right there on the band's short list.

In addition to occasionally recording classic rock cuts with Anthrax, Belladonna plays drums and sings in the classic rock covers band Big Chief Way in upstate New York.

Anthrax recently announced plans to start recording the follow-up to 2016's For All Kings. In a recent interview drummer and songwriter Charlie Benante said he has a good portion of seven new songs written and it's looking like it'll be a pretty heavy record. "There's a bit more aggression to the new stuff — a bit more anger," he said. "I think that's just a reflection of where we are in our lives and in this world. A lot of people are really angry at these things that are happening. And now that we're getting up there in age, we see it from a different set of eyes than I would have when I was in my 20s."
