An early four-page, handwritten draft of Bob Dylan’s ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ -- dating back to the song’s 1965 release -- has sold for $2 million to an unidentified bidder during an auction at Sotheby’s.
To say British singer-songwriter Mike Marlin is a wearer of many hats is something of an understatement. He was a student of physics at Oxford, and after dropping out in his final year, he worked as a successful computer programmer. Marlin changed paths once more in 2009 to pursue music. It was then that he sat down and recorded his debut album, ‘Nearly Man.’
Cameron Rafati, the man behind Cameron the Public, tried to keep his music secondary to his studies as a student at USC, but after a brief stint at a 9-to-5 job after graduation, he knew that life wasn’t for him. After refocusing on music, Rafati put out a solo album in 2011. Now, he’s prepping to release his band’s debut EP at the end of the summer.
New York indie-rock trio the Rotaries served up some energetic tunes that could very well stand the test of time on their debut LP, ‘Before Leaving.’ Their sound carries the pop-rock sensibilities of the ‘60s and ‘70s with a modern tinge derived from influences like the Strokes. However, the whole thing wouldn’t work without the trio’s distinct fingerprint.
After her brief run as a member of Adam Levine’s team on the first season of ‘The Voice,’ Casey Desmond returned to Boston, still determined to make music. In her audition for the show, she performed Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way,’ and appropriately so. Desmond exudes that element of female-pop-star showmanship, both in her sound and her live performances, but she also incorporates her love of ‘80s dance-pop. Ultimately, Desmond’s music is Robyn-meets-Blondie and incredibly infectious.
Virginia-based Random Holiday have released two EPs, a split album with fellow pop-punkers Batten Down the Hatches and their own debut full-length, ‘Space to Grow’ — all before the quartet’s high school graduation.
