Eagles Approach Milestone Anniversary; Don Henley Says They May ‘Quit’

Since starting out four decades ago, the Eagles have notched six number one albums, six Grammys, five number one singles, and sold more than 120 million albums. How do you celebrate your 40th anniversary after enjoying so much success?

ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons Promises ‘Loud,’ ‘Fast’ New Album

It’s been eight long years since we’ve heard anything new from ZZ Top, but fans can look forward to a new album soon — and guitarist Billy Gibbons says it’s “a return to the early ZZ Top roots.”

Bush Releases New Song for Free Download

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. So what’s a new mp3 from Bush worth?

Fortunately, you don’t have to answer that question, because the band is giving away their new single, ‘All My Life,’ for free. The track, due for inclusion on the band’s upcoming album ‘The Sea of Memories,’ is being offered at the Electronic Arts website for free download.

Why EA, you ask? The partnership came about because another track from the album – which will be made available for free download on July 25 – is being featured on EA Sports’ ‘NHL 12.’ An unusual tie-in, perhaps, but when your band has been away for the better part of a decade, you’ve got to try and make a splash.

Soundgarden Promises ‘Very Heavy’ New Album

They don’t have a release date, a title, or even a record company waiting to get it onto the shelves, but Soundgarden is in the studio working on its first new album in 15 years – and during a pair of recent interviews, frontman Chris Cornell and guitarist Kim Thayil hinted at what fans can expect to hear.

“We’re kind of doing it in stages,” says Thayil, adding, “We have about 14 songs in various stages of completion. Previously, we’d just block out a bunch of time and go and track everything at once, but we can’t really do that right now.”

Lou Reed and Metallica to Release New Album Together

Aside from their shared love of the color black, Lou Reed and Metallica don’t have much in common – Metallica are heavy metal heroes, and Reed is the unofficial poet laureate of New York. Despite the differences, the band and Reed have announced yesterday they’ve recorded an album together.

Reed told Ultimate Classic Rock all it took was one concert to bring them together.

A 25th anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance in 2009 found Metallica backing up Reed for a couple of songs. “We knew from then,” Reed told David Fricke of Rolling Stone, who broke the news, “that we were made for each other.”
