‘Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’ puts gamers back in the shoes of Raiden — the katana-wielding ally of series mainstay Solid Snake — and Depeche Mode play the role of hype men in a new trailer. The veteran synthpop legends offer up the song ‘Wrong’ from their last album, 2009′s ‘Sounds of the Universe,’ for the big unveil. Nothing like a downtrodden, minor key anthem of apathy to provide the soundtrack to the latest installment in such an iconic series of video games.

The Smashing Pumpkins reportedly turned in a sprawling, 19-song set at the Rock in Rio festival on Saturday (May 25) in Lisbon, Portugal, which included covers of classics by rockers David Bowie and Kiss. During the gig, the Pumpkins also were able to reach back into the early part of their career, playing three songs from 1993′s ‘Siamese Dream’ (including singles ‘Cherub Rock’ and ‘Today’) and another five from 1995′s ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’ (including hits ‘Bullet with Butterfly Wings,’ ‘1979’ and ‘Tonight, Tonight’).
There are literally thousands of bridges in Los Angeles, but only one can be the one Anthony Kiedis sings about in the 1992 Red Hot Chili Peppers ballad ‘Under the Bridge.’ The song, an ode to the City of Angels as seen through the eyes of a junkie, took the underground funk-rock act to No. 2 on the Billboard charts, forever changing the lives of Kiedis and his compatriots.
Cee Lo Green, of all people, hit the stage of the 2012 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night in Las Vegas to pay tribute to late Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch with a lively run-through of the B-Boys classic ‘(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!).’ ‘The Voice’ coach was joined by his recently reunited band Goodie Mob, the Atlanta-based hip-hop collective, for the performance.

Nobody can fill the extra-large Adidas sneakers favored by the Beastie Boys, but the Roots, Kid Rock and Travie McCoy of the Gym Class Heroes nobly did their best last month when the B-Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Adam “MCA” Yauch called in sick at the 11th hour — Yauch’s mom later revealed he was admitted into the hospital that very night as he continued to battle cancer, a battle that sadly ended Friday (May 4) when Yauch passed away at the age of 47.
Eddie Vedder has postponed his upcoming North American solo tour due to nerve damage in his right arm caused by a back injury the Pearl Jam singer sustained earlier this year. All but one date on the 15-city trek will be rescheduled for later this year.
Pearl Jam celebrated a special anniversary in September when they rolled into Alpine Valley’s Music Theater in Wisconsin for their PJ20 festival, and now they have something special planned for needy children in the area. The band has pledged to donate $50,000 to Blessings in a Backpack, an organization that provides weekend meals for students who qualify for the federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program.
When it was announced that Nickelback would perform during halftime of the Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions NFL game on Thanksgiving Day in Detroit, a group of ‘Back haters started an online petition seeking a different act for entertainment. It’s just the latest in a steady stream of disses directed at the band — yet despite all the Nickelback bashing that goes on, the band members’ feelings don’t seem hurt in the slightest.
Legendary producer Rick Rubin is known for his work on massively successful releases from the likes of Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Linkin Park, but Corey Taylor, whose Slipknot recorded their 2004 album ‘Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses)’ with Rubin, doesn’t exactly have a glowing review of the experience.
