Rik Mikals

I’ve been up and down the radio dial as the famous "WKRP" line goes. I started right out of high school in 1988 in my hometown of Clarkston, Wash,, at KCLK – a country station -- and from there moved all over Idaho, Montana, California and Washington state at various radio stations. I was on KMPS in Seattle in the 1990s and moved to Yakima in 1998 as program director of KFFM. I moved again and again until I was in Bakersfield, Calif,, and then Tri-Cities, and then back to Yakima, and again to Tri-Cities and more! I bought a farm in Prosser a few years back with my wife Megan, and we have three great dogs named Phoebe, Barkley and Roxy. My son is an aspiring musician and plays, performs and writes original music. I also have a stepson named Kyran. I’m known for having a never-ending knowledge of pop culture and easily get addicted to TV reality shows. I love "Star Trek," Mustangs (the car) and '80s music. I’m a huge comic book fan, having a comic collection easily totaling more than 6,000 comics.

Take A Scenic Drive Down One Of Washington’s Windiest Grades [VIDEO]

I grew up in the Lewiston/Clarkston Valley, but for six years of my life I was a foster kid and lived at the confluence of the Grand Ronde River on the border of the Washington/Oregon border. I lived right at the bottom of the Rattlesnake Grade on the Washington side and on the other side was the Buford Grade that proceeded to Oregon.

I had to be bused to school each day to Asotin, WA as is our state law. It was 62 miles round trip and it wasn’t a straight line to school.  I had to travel up the Asotin Grade on Highway 129, past Anatone and further past Field’s Spring State Park.

The portion of the daily bus ride that is probably the scariest during winter is the Rattlesnake Grade.  The American Motorcycle Association designated the grade as one of the top 15 motorcycle rides in America and the winding grade definitely lives up to its name, but think about if you are an 8-yr old kid traveling that daily and running into snow.

What Does Coldplay Have To Do With Setting Your Clocks Back on Sunday?

Benjamin Franklin was the first to suggest Daylight Saving Time, but it wasn't until 1907 that Daylight Saving Time became a thing.

A man named William Willett wrote an essay called "The Waste Of Daylight" and spent the rest of his life trying to change the world. Sadly, William passed away before he saw the fruition of his grand scheme, but America adopted his plan soon after.

So what the heck does that have to do with the band Coldplay?
