Roberts Blossom, Old Man from ‘Home Alone,’ Dead at 87
Veteran stage and screen actor Roberts Blossom has died of natural causes in Santa Monica, California. He was 87.
Blossom’s 40-year career included films like ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ and ‘Christine,’ and TV series such as ‘Northern Exposure’ and ‘Chicago Hope.’
But he’s perhaps best known for playing “Old Man Marley” in the classic holiday movie ‘Home Alone,’ in which he stole the hearts of audiences as the wrongly accused South Bend Shovel Slayer who saves Macaulay Culkin’s mischievous Kevin McCallister from certain doom at the hands of the Wet Bandits.

ISPs Sign New Initiative to Rein In Suspected Piracy
In what’s being heralded as a win for film and music studios, the country’s top internet service providers — Comcast, AT&T, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision and Verizon — have all signed on to a new initiative called the Copyright Alert System to combat internet piracy.
The new process will identify users suspected of digital copyright infringement, such as heavy downloaders, and then send out a series of six warnings, each promising “progressively harsher consequences if the initial cautions ignored.”

In a process that took nine hours, Dutch artists Lenert Engelberts and Sander Plug put a year’s worth of makeup on a model’s face at once. The mess included seven bottles of foundation, three lipsticks, and two bottles each of eye shadow and cream blush, bringing the grand total to 7.7 fl. oz of drippy “perfection.”

Designer Creates Prototype for Robot Armpit That Smells Like Real Armpit
Look closely. What you’re seeing isn’t chewing gum that’s been left on the floor of a hair salon. That’s a robot armpit prototype, built by designer Kevin Grennan as part of his studies on the role of smell in human-robot interaction. He’s also developed ideas for adding scent glands to industrial robots — like a surgical robot that releases the trust-building hormone oxytocin.

Paypal’s President Predicts the Demise of the Wallet
Now that Paypal has reached 100 million active accounts, a company executive predicts physical wallets will soon be mothballed.
“We believe that by 2015 digital currency will be accepted everywhere in the US -– from your local corner store to Walmart. We will no longer need to carry a wallet,” Paypal President Scott Thompson said in a blog post.
