Baobab, the solo project of producer Phil Torres, is as elaborate as it is sensible. On his forthcoming sophomore full-length, 'Bayohbahb,' he intertwines drifting electronic samples with colorful pop melodies beneath layers of vocal harmonies, creating a Nintendo-meets-folk style unrivaled by his contemporaries. In complex post-production sessions, Torres added plucked guitar, mandolin and ukulele to the mix, tapping friend and digital artist Whitney Trettien to help him execute the sound live.

"The album came together last year in between playing shows to support the first Baobab album," Torres says. "Like the debut, it's entirely a solo project, from the writing and recording to the mixing and mastering."

'BAYOHBAHB' will be available on vinyl March 12.
