Bears Shutout 9-0 by Spokane

The Yakima Bears were shutout by the Spokane Indians 9-0 Saturday night at Yakima County Stadium. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Bears.

Bears starting pitcher Blake Perry left the game after a season-low two and a third innings. Perry suffered his first loss of the season after giving up three earned runs and four runs total on five hits. Kyle Owings replaced Perry in the third inning and stranded two runners left on by the starter. Owings would follow the third with three shutout innings, but then gave up a two-run home run in seventh and three unearned runs in the eighth. By the end of his outing, Owings had allowed two earned runs and five runs total on eight hits in five and a third innings. Blake Forslund pitched the final inning and a third without allowing a run.

The Bears were outhit 13-5 and the Indians scored in five different innings. All of the hits for Yakima were singles and the defense struggled as well, committing three errors. The bright spots offensively were Kevin Medrano and Jacob House, who both went 2-for-4 in the losing effort.

The Bears had already earned the series win by taking the first two games against Spokane and now the team gets set to continue the six-game homestand with three games against the Bosie Hawks. The series starts Sunday with a game scheduled for 5:35. The Bears are expected to start left-handed pitcher Daniel Watts against Hawks right-handed pitcher Tayler Scott.
