Bethesda has released the schedule for this year’s QuakeCon, including panels and tournaments, as well as the debut of Id Software and Bethesda’s next entry in the Doom series.

Previously called Doom 4, the game now known simply as DOOM will make its first appearance during QuakeCon’s welcome ceremony on July 17 at 6:00 PM Central Time. Presumably, the presentation will be a pre-rendered trailer, and not a gameplay demonstration. According to Polygon, Bethesda has stated that this event will be only for QuakeCon attendees, and will not be streamed or otherwise broadcast.

DOOM has had a rough development cycle, with multiple restarts and allegations of severe mismanagement, but after 6 years in the works it appears that the seemingly snake-bitten project is back on track. Early reports indicated that the game would be more like the classic Doom PC games than the more horror-inspired Doom 3, but the project has been restarted and re-envisioned so many times that we have no idea if this is still the case.

Other events at QuakeCon include tournaments for Elder Scrolls Online and Magic: The Gathering, and a panel entitled “Designing the Perfect Game", which features Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart and former Minnesota Vikings punter and gaming enthusiast Chris Kluwe.
