Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has lent a hand in the attempt to catch the culprit of a disturbing investigation. In Yonkers, N.Y., 25 cats were killed and left swinging in plastic bags in a wooded area. There is a sizable reward to find the person responsible, and Geezer Butler has offered $1,000 of his own money to encourage anyone with information to come forward.

The feline bodies were discovered by Yonkers Department of Public Works employees on April 24 while cleaning in the woods. Butler is a longtime animal activist and vegan, so it’s no surprise that the bassist was deeply affected by such a horrific crime. Geezer’s contribution of a grand increases the full reward to a total of $25,000.

“It is so tragic that we have human beings among us that are capable of committing such a heinous and heartless crime,” Butler said in a statement released by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Westchester. “Surely there is someone out there that knows who has done this. Please do the right thing and come forward to get this coward(s) off the street.”

SPCA’s executive director Shannon Laukhuf adds, “The total amount of the reward money reflects the resolve of the SPCA and the community to find the perpetrators of one of the worst cases of animal cruelty Westchester has ever known.”

Anyone with information should contact the SPCA at 914-941-7797.
