Black Stone Cherry Rock Out With Weekend Anthem ‘Southern Fried Friday Night’

Black Stone Cherry have taken a bluesier turn with their music on the Family Tree album, and it continues here with the band's new weekend anthem "Southern Fried Friday Night."

As heard in the player above, the band makes use of a talk box to open the track, eventually giving way to Chris Robertson's soulful and bluesy vocals. The song chugs along with some nasty funk and some hell-raising guitar licks and beats. In the track, Robertson offers a vivid description of what he's looking for during the titular evening, singing, "Skirts and boots / Them redneck attitudes / A tattoo or three / That's just fine with me." The track instills a little bit of the country life, while also invoking a more rocking sound and walking that line between the two genres.

"Southern Fried Friday Night" is the third song to arrive from the band's upcoming Family Tree disc. It follows on the heels of "Burnin'" and the current single "Bad Habit," the latter of which had a video that debuted right here at Loudwire.

With regards to the bluesier direction, singer Chris Robertson told us in a forthcoming interview that their Black to Blues EP really had an impact on them. "That kinda gave us a free feeling where it kinda took us back. It kind of re-sparked this and rejuvenated us, into that kind of style of the recording and producing records where nothing is completely overdone," explained the singer, calling the process of recording the new album "inspirational."
