Half a dozen years ago, Yakima tried out a crazy idea: free, live music in the street. Great bands from all over the Northwest, food, beer, wine -- a come-as-you-are party for anybody who felt like showing up on a warm Yakima evening.

Turns out it worked, too -- welcome to the 2018 edition of Downtown Summer Nights.

And who better to set off the new season than one of our best pals, Blake Noble? The Australian-born instrumentalist is Yakima's favorite adopted son, and Thursday night, he and his band reminded us why.

Following a smooth set by Portland's Talbott Brothers, Blake's outfit took the stage on North Front Street and delighted the crowd for more than an hour and a half.

Here's a little bit of how it looked -- and here's to a happy half-dozen years, DSN!
