• A coalition of business and agriculture leaders launched a Day of Action on immigration reform yesterday with a media conference call.

On the teleconference they called on Congress to act to address immigration reform this year.

The event was coordinated with a national effort spearheaded by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Partnership for a New American Economy, Business Roundtable, the American Farm Bureau Federation, AmericanHort, the National Association of Manufacturers, and Western Growers.

The teleconference was one of 40 events in congressional districts across 20 states calling on Congress to act on immigration reform this year.

  • Several ag organizations have submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Agency regarding its Interpretive Rule on exemptions from permitting under the Clean Water Act.

A group of more than 90 organizations say the interpretive rule binds farmers and ranchers with new, specific legal obligations under the Clean Water Act and modifies existing regulations interpreting the statutory term normal farming, ranching and silviculture.

The interpretive rule would exempt 56 agricultural activities from a proposed rule that would expand EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers’ authority over certain waters.
