The Yakima City Council voted Tuesday to not ask voters to increase car tabs to pay for city street repairs. The council also voted in favor of a super-majority tax proposal that voters will decide in August. Instead of a car tab increase, the council decided to ask voters to pass a charter amendment in August that would dedicate upwards of $2 million per year to city road projects. The council will vote on a ballot measure on that issue before it is passed to voters. The August ballot will also see a proposal in which a super-majority of city council members would have to vote to pass a city tax increase.
