Happy Birthday To The United States Army — Thank You For Your Service

Our armed forces are the reason why we live in a free country -- the great United States of America! We are free, and as long as our armed forces are around, we will always be free. Today (June 14) we celebrate the birth of our beloved United States Army! They are the largest of our armed forces as they serve us on the ground. He Floats Like A Butterfly, Stings Like A Bee — Remembering Cassius Clay Jr.

The greatest legend in the boxing world, Cassius Clay Jr. -- or Muhammad Ali -- passed away in Arizona on June 3 from Parkinson's syndrome. When I was a kid, he was the guy. My brother and I watched the "Widel World of Sports" on Saturdays and they would always show old fights and clips from Ali. So, my brother taught me the coolest song ever! Veterans Memorial At Tahoma Cemetery Made Me Proud & Sad [PHOTOS]

We honored them on Monday, Memorial Day, at the Tahoma Cemetery. The ceremony did not leave a dry eye in the area. I started crying when the WWII veteran sang the National Anthem. There were lots of people to honor our military there. It made me proud that they came.

Sept. 18 is National POW/MIA Recognition Day — Always Thank a Veteran [PHOTOS]

Starting with my daughter, who is now 25, and with my stepkids, who are 11 and 14, I make sure that they thank service people in uniform. When we are in a store, I always make sure they stop, thank them and shake their hand. Now, they do it without me even asking. When they've asked me why, I've always said the same thing: "You are free because of them, and you never know if they were a prisoner of war or someone who was once missing in action." That gives them the chills and then thanking them is easy.

It should be even easier to remember today (Sept.18) -- it's National POW/MIA day!
