Go behind-the-scenes in this video, which looks at how the Ubisoft Montreal team gave Child of Light its unique visuals.
Creative Director Patrick Plourde and writer Jeffrey Yohalem act as our guides in this video, showing us the work that went into crafting the world of Child of Light. We’re given a bit of background on our protagonist, the young princess Aurora, and how her journey will see her grow from a scared, lost child to a princess who seeks to protect the land.
The dreamy, watercolor aesthetics of Child of Light are inspired by ancient artwork, giving it the feel of an animated painting. A lot of the designs were homages to the work of John Bauer, Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham, just to name a few artists.
The game was built using the UbiArt Framework, which was also used to build the gorgeous 2D platformer, Rayman Legends. With that said, it’s not surprise to see Child of Light looking so gorgeous.
You can look out for all of the pretty visuals in Child of Light when it drops on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on Apr. 30.
