Since the economy took a nose dive starting in late 2007 employers have been heaping more work on less people and their internal PR departments have gotten more and more clever in their efforts to put a positive spin on what their really doing... increasing profits by cutting jobs and heaping the extra work on the survivors of those cuts and increasing the number of hours in their work week. Here are my favorite flowery phrases intended to take the sting out of the process:

1. We're working smarter, not harder.
2. We're streamlining our operation.
3. We're becoming more efficient.
4. We're trimming the fat.
5. We're making a workforce adjustment.
6. We're starting to evolve our organization and culture.
7. The company is implementing changes "to become more fit."
8. Reducing our cost structure.
9. The company is undergoing a "reengineering".
10. The company will offer the opportunity for employees... to proactively 'hand raise' and be considered for separation.
