• College students recently discussed various issues affecting agriculture during a panel called College Cafeteria Confidential: Millennials in the Lunch Line.

One topic the students discussed was sustainability and how it, and many other buzz words, is defined regarding agriculture.

To reach today’s students, student Eric Estroff says agriculture should use Facebook and Buzzfeed to connect because college students have short attention spans. As a millennial, he says there are two minutes to grab his attention so information must be creative.

  • Deputy Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s division of foodborne diseases sent a letter to state epidemiologists last week about the risks associated with raw milk.

Dr. Robert Tauxe says that from 2007 to 2012, the CDC has tracked 81 outbreaks traced to raw milk, sickening nearly 1,000 people and hospitalizing more than 70.

The move to more natural products seems to be driving these numbers. Washington allows the retail sales of raw milk while Oregon only allows on-farm sale of raw milk.
