Courtney Love Discusses Writing New Material, Bags on Queens of the Stone Age

Spencer Kaufman, Loudwire

Courtney Love is back at work ahead of her upcoming European dates, and the singer discussed the current state of her new music with The Quietus. Love revealed that at least one new song will be turning up, and possibly more, during her upcoming shows.

The vocalist stated, “[My new single] ‘Wedding Day’ will be out by then. It got mastered this weekend, so it should be out any day.” Love says of the single, “I wrote this song after just months and months of trying to write and trying to write, and then this one song just came in 20 minutes. It just came in like a bolt from 18. I wish I had written this in 1990, 1983 even. You know what I mean? It’s just that song, it’s that good.”

Delving deeper into her songwriting process, Love answered in a very frank way in which only she could, dropping a little dig at Queens of the Stone Age in the process. The vocalist stated, “You sit and you write like, Queens of the Stone Age drudge for a month and it’s just not happening and it’s not happening — not that Queens of the Stone Age suck, but people expect a lot more from me. Josh Homme can play like, four notes on his bass and people take off their tops, but I have a higher bar set for some reason. It has to be just f—ing really, really good.”

Love also confirmed that she had been playing with classic members from her band Hole during the process “just to see how that was, if we got anything killer happening.” Speaking about her reunion with Melissa Auf Der Maur, Eric Erlandson and Patty Schemel, she stated, “We already rehearsed, like, three times in the last week.”

But while the trio has rehearsed with Love, it’ll be Love’s longtime guitarist Micko Larkin, plus a new bassist and drummer rounding out her touring lineup for the U.K. dates.
