Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro recently participated in bizarre art ritual in the California desert. Documented in a series of photos, Navarro took part in a bloodletting practice, and with the musician's blood, a portrait of Navarro's late mother was painted.

You may remember seeing Dave Navarro undergo flesh hook suspension, where the skin on the guitarist's back was pierced by multiple hooks before Navarro was rigged up and lifted up off his feet using only the hooks to create the proper leverage. Navarro still practices flesh hook suspension and has recently gone through scarification, but his fascination with the macabre hasn't stopped there.

With the help of artists / body modification experts Samppa Von Cyborg and Aneta Von Cyborg, Dave Navarro was bled through a cut on his forehead. Navarro's blood was then gathered in a wine glass and used to paint his mother, Constance Navarro, who was murdered by boyfriend John Riccardi in March 1983. Dave was only 15 years old at the time of his mother's death, and the case was well documented on 'America's Most Wanted.'

The strikingly beautiful Constance Navarro was immortalized with the blood of her son on May 31. The Instagram profile of The Spread Group and the Tumblr page of Samppa Von Cyborg feature pictures of Navarro bleeding, along with the finished portrait. "We painted portrait of Dave’s mother with his own blood in desert. That was amazing day!" writes Samppa.
