Deftones frontman Chino Moreno may be spending his time in Australia promoting his other band Crosses, but that doesn't mean that Deftones are taking things easy. Despite an earlier report that the band would be taking the year off, it's all systems go in the Deftones camp.

In a new video interview provided by Soundwave TV (and seen above), Moreno reveals that his fellow bandmates have indeed started working on the group's next album. He explained, "I haven't personally started [writing], but the other guys started last week, so I'm excited to hear what they've done so far. I'm going to go check in with them next week."

Speaking about the process of creating music, Moreno elaborated, "When we make records we don't plan out what kind of record we're going to make. We never have. It's like we react to each other. One guy starts playing something and then one guy reacts to it, the other guy reacts to it and the next thing you know, we have a song. I always think that's the best organic way to write music."

Though a timetable has not been revealed for the next Deftones record, the group will take the time to play a handful of shows in Texas this May. The band has booked four shows at the end of May, performing in Lubbock, Laredo, Pharr and Corpus Christi, Texas. The exact dates and venues can be seen below. Tickets are on sale now at this location.

And while at Soundwave, Moreno took time out to join Filter onstage for their performance in Perth, Australia. The vocalist walked out onstage to lend a vocal hand just as Richard Patrick hit the chorus on 'Take a Picture.' Fan shot footage of the performance can be seen below.
