A high-end Activision representative has chimed in about the potential of Destiny and how hard the publisher is going to push it, also acknowledging Destiny's expected beta launch.

During an Activision investor call (covered by CVG), Bungie claimed Destiny could be Activision's next big thing. Shocking, we know. "[Desinty] could be Activision Publishing's third billion-dollar franchise, and we're working hard to make it the biggest new IP launch in video game history," said Activision President and CEO Eric Hirshberg.

"We believe the game is on track to deliver record pre-orders for a new franchise, a public beta is planned for summer and we expect to launch the game on September 9," Hirshberg added. The summer beta window must also factor in Bungie's original claim back in Nov. 2013 when it said that the Destiny beta will be available for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 owners first. Hirshberg also claimed Bungie will continue to produce Destiny-related content for years to come after its release.

Right now, the only way to gain access to the beta is by pre-ordering Destiny from select retailers. Once the actual beta start date nears, Bungie is likely to offer more ways to play the anticipated game early.
