With clouds looming and rain pattering, Thursday night's Downtown Summer Nights opening started out looking pretty ugly. But as the music started, the skies brightened -- and all of a sudden everything started looking like a lot more fun.

Yakima's Entice the Mice followed by Portland's Scott Pemberton Band shook out solid sets for the Front Street faithful, turning the annual downtown concert series into another memorable night of good food, great drinks and cheery company in the historic brick neighborhood.

Here's how it looked ...

The free shows, presented by Stewart Subaru and Downtown Association of Yakima, run every Thursday through August from 5:30-9 p.m. on North Front Street between Yakima Avenue and Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way. Chinook Fest powers the music, Legends Casino Hotel sponsors the stage and Virginia Mason Memorial provides a cooling station (not that anybody needed one last night) complete with a misting tent.

Meantime, Regional Health hosts an interactive, safe and fun kids area, and MOD Pizza -- with help from Arts on the Move -- oversees all of the weekly activities. U.S. Cellular supplies the cellphone charging stations.
