Failure Offer Out of This World ‘Counterfeit Sky’ Video

Imagine the sensation of waking up on a foreign planet, realizing that your oxygen is slipping away if you don’t act quickly. No, we’re not talking about The Martian, but rather “Counterfeit Sky,” the new video from Failure. And aside from that initial terrifying construct, the video’s storyline does not mirror the current hit film, but rather takes another creative direction.
Instead, the Kevin Margo-directed video is a bit of a head trip. It features the central character first coming to terms with his current state and attempting to survive, but as the video plays out, Margo toys with the timeline a bit, flashing back to the events that landed this adventurer on the planet and what his ultimate fate may be. Watch the clip in full above.
Failure vocalist Ken Andrews reveals that the video was inspired by Margo’s award-winning short film Grounded. Andrews had an in with the director as he created the score for Margo’s short film.
In other Failure news, the reunited rockers, with guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen now back with the band as well, are getting ready to hit the road. “After 18 years it’s a real joy to rejoin one of my favorite bands,” said Van Leeuwen. “When I originally joined Failure in 1996, I had no idea of the musical journey that was ahead of me. The chemistry we have in a live setting is a special experience and I can’t wait to share it with fans old and new.”
The trek gets underway Oct. 9 in Jacksonville, Fla., and continues through the end of October. The band will also play a handful of December shows in France and Germany, then kick off 2016 on the Soundwave Festival down under in late January. Dates for the tour can be found below.
It should also be noted that Failure are offering what they call the “Technical VIP” package specifically designed for musicians and engineers. As part of the VIP upgrade, Ken Andrews gives a limited number of fans a personal tour of the Failure live set up, the specific equipment used onstage, a live demonstration of the guitar / bass rigs, monitoring system, as well as a tour of the front of house equipment, and a Q&A session with Ken. Both the Technical VIP packages and traditional VIP fan packages are available via the band’s website here.
