In honor of the Foo Fighters agreeing to perform a crowd-funded concert tonight (Sept. 17) in Richmond, Va., the mayor has officially dedicated the day in their honor.

The Foos haven't played in Richmond for 16 years, which prompted fan Andrew Goldin to kick off a Crowdtilt Open campaign with a goal of selling 1,400 tickets at $50 each to a show that didn’t yet exist in hopes of convincing the band to eventually jump on board.

“Rather than waiting, and waiting and waiting for our favorite band to come to us, we’re making it happen,” Goldin said in a mission statement. After raising $70,000, Foo Fighters set a date for tonight, and that was enough for Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones to officially declare Sept. 17 as 'Foo Fighters Day.' In his official proclamation, Jones recognized “this fan-orchestrated event that brought Foo Fighters back to Virginia’s capital city.”
