The Foo Fighters have announced via Twitter that they will perform at The National in Richmond, Va., on Sept. 17. The show is the culmination of a crowd-funded campaign to get the Foos to play in the city for the first time since 1999.

The CrowdTilt campaign was started by Andrew Goldin, Brig White, John McAdorey and Lucas Krost, who had the idea to sell tickets to a show that didn’t exist in hopes they would sell-out, garner the band's attention and bring the Foo Fighters back to Richmond.

The successful campaign brought in some big money from local businesses like Sugar Shack Donuts and Brown’s Volkswagon, who each donated $5,000. All tickets to the show were sold out before the band even knew about it. The organizers were prepared to return all the money if the Foos refused to play.
