Foo Fighters Win Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song + More 2012 Grammy Awards
So far at tonight’s 2012 Grammy Awards, Foo Fighters have taken home four awards, bringing their all-time Grammy wins from six to 10. During the pre-telecast ceremony, the band won for Best Long Form Music Video, Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album.
Foo Fighters won their first award of the night for ‘Best Long Form Music Video.’ Directed by James Moll and Nigel Sinclair, the award was presented to Moll and the band for ‘Foo Fighters: Back and Forth.’ Moll enthusiastically announced all five Foo members before giving his many thanks to those who helped make the award possible.
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl also made a short speech after winning the award, praising the work of Moll. “He told the story of this band better than anyone else could,” raved Grohl. When asked about the Foos’ seventh Grammy win in an interview backstage, Grohl replied, “Feels like the first time.”
The band then defeated Megadeth, Mastodon, Dream Theater and Sum 41 for the ‘Best Hard Rock / Metal Performance’ category, winning for their tune ‘White Limo.’ Frontman Dave Grohl reminisced about asking his wife to record the album in their basement rather than a traditional recording studio. Luckily for Grohl, she complied. “This represents the human element of music when you go straight to tape,” said Grohl.
Immediately after, the Foos scooped two additional awards – winning Best Rock Song for ‘Walk’ and Best Rock Album for ‘Wasting Light.’
After winning for ‘Walk,’ drummer Taylor Hawkins dropped a sweet amount of profanity, starting his acceptance speech simply with, “S—.” Hawkins added, “We would not be here at the f—ing Grammys if Dave Grohl didn’t create the Foo Fighters.”
Grohl seemed overwhelmed by the three back-to-back wins.”Thank you very much, I don’t know what to say. Thank you very much,” said Grohl after their Best Rock Album win.
Stay tuned to see if the Foo Fighters win for Best Rock Performance and Album of the Year, plus their two live performances during the 2012 Grammy Awards telecast.
