Los Angeles police pulled the plug on a free Suicidal Tendencies concert only a half an hour into the set. According to drummer Dave Lombardo's social media post (seen below), the band "got to play four songs before the riot squad and helicopter aka Ghetto birds broke up the event," apparently in response to some “rowdy” audience members breaking through one of the security gates.

The concert was in support of the unveiling of a mural of the band's lead singer, Mike Muir, being honored by council member José Huizar and Los Angeles artist, Robert Vargas. Located in the trendy DTLA Arts District, the mural is adjacent to the future 6th Street Bridge and park space. Council member Huizar and the City's Department of Cultural Affairs enlisted the muralist Robert Vargas, whose work is displayed throughout the city, to paint a freehand mural of Muir. Fan-shot video of the unveiling can be seen above.

As seen in the video below, things did get a bit "rowdy," but at the end of their set Muir encouraged fans to be respectful of the police officials who had shut down the show. "Please leave with respect," said the singer.  "Smile at 'em, no disrespect." Watch the video below:

“This mural highlights the talents of two great artists, Robert Vargas, a prolific and skilled muralist, and Mike Muir, one of the iconic voices of a generation and a legend in punk/metal/rock music,” City Councilman Jose Huizar recently told L.A. Daily News.

“I am a huge supporter of the arts and in particular, our local artists -- they help define Los Angeles as a city and as a unique cultural and artistic destination unlike any place in the world. Whether fighting side by side with L.A. artists to lift the city’s mural ban, or bringing the Night on Broadway Festival to Downtown Los Angeles, or in this case, helping facilitate a mural honoring the indelible Mike Muir, I have tried in whatever way I can to support and uplift our city’s creative community,” he said.

The band's latest album, World Gone Mad, was released last fall as the follow-up to 2013's 13. It was the band's first to feature former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and guitarist Jeff Pogan, who replaced Nico Santora in May 2016.

Suicidal Tendencies kicked off their US tour with opening acts Crowbar and Havoc. They are slated to play festivals in Europe over the summer in support of the album. See their tour schedule here.
