I got my very first Game Boy on my birthday after it was released. Since it was released on April 21st and my birthday is April 12th, I had to wait a full year before I got my hands on one, but, once I did, I never put it back down. I still have my Game Boy and several incarnations of it from Game Boy Pocket to Color to the later versions like the Game Boy Advance and even the Nintendo DS systems, but all show thanks to the original.

Here are some of my favorite Game Boy games that I still play today.

Tetris

The game that came packed with the Game Boy to help sell it. It was really all you needed for a while. I still play this Game Boy version for nostalgia sake, though I'm not as good as many.

Kwirk

If you told me there was a game where you play as a tomato pushing blocks into holes, I'd pass on it. But there's something about this title that keeps me playing even today.

Daedalian Opus

A true puzzle game. As in, really, it's just pieces you put together so they fit in the allotted space.

Qix

You have to draw off sections of the grid without getting hit to cover as much ground as you can.

Kid Dracula

It's really a cute kid's version of Castlevania from the same company as Castlevania. It doesn't make it any less fun.

Donkey Kong

Although we've all played Donkey Kong, this is a modified version of it. It's much longer and you can do more than the original arcade classic.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

This Game Boy version of the famous 'Zelda' franchise proved you could still make an epic game with limited resources. It's one of the best Zelda games of all time.

And, in case you're wondering where Pokemon is on this list - it isn't. I never got into Pokemon. I don't hate them, but they're just not my kind of game. I get the draw, though.

And, speaking on Game Boy, today's gamers with digital downloads and discs, they'll never know the awesome sound made when you're searching through your pile of games.

Kirby's Dream Land
In the first Kirby game, you couldn't absorb enemy's powers, but it didn't stop it from being a super fun game.
