A few weeks ago was one of my favorite days on the calendar. This past Sept. 19 was the annual "International Talk Like A Pirate Day," when all are encouraged to speak with the voice and language of, well ... pirates.

One teacher at a school in North Carolina really got into it by wearing a pirate costume, complete with plastic sword, to school. What happened next is almost unbelievable.

According to BenSwann.com, "a cafeteria worker had confused a plastic sword from a teacher’s pirate costume for a gun."

Cue the Benny Hill music.

Local law enforcement showed up at FOUR schools within the district with K-9 units looking for a suspicious person about to carry out a school shooting.  All four schools were put on lockdown.

One elementary-aged student told a local tv station WITN-TV, “It was terrifying … I didn’t know what was going on … we were all huddled up in a corner.”

After three hours, the lockdown was lifted and all resumed the "normal" school day.

God forbid that would happen on Halloween.
