As the last of the Yakima Valley's apricots come of the trees this year, the old toMAYto vs. toMAHto pronunciation debate is back in season.

Or in this case, is it APPricot or APEricot?

Where I come from APPricot seems a little frou-frou. Pretentious, even. We all said APEricot around our house. I didn't even know there was another way to say it until I moved to the big city in my 20s.

I've tried saying APPricot, but it sounds phony coming from me. Guess I'll stick with APEricot.

Am I wrong?
