HBO’s ‘Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck’ Documentary Will Air On May 4

We now know when we can expect the first fully authorized documentary of the late, iconic Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Director Brett Morgen’s ‘Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck’ will air on HBO on May 4.

The film -- which features much of Cobain’s archives, including home movies, photos, artwork and previously unheard music -- will first debut at the Sundance Film Festival later this month before making its way to HBO in May.

Cobain’s former wife, Courtney Love, reached out to Morgen about making the documentary, however, she was not involved in its production.

“We agreed that because Courtney was a subject in the film, it would be best if she wasn’t given editorial control,” Morgen said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

However, Cobain and Love’s daughter, Frances Bean, was given such editorial control and she is credited as executive producer on the documentary. Both she and Love gave Morgen unparalleled access to Cobain’s personal archives to make the forthcoming film.

As HBO describes the doc, "It features dozens of Nirvana songs and performances, as well as previously unheard Cobain originals." We've got May 4 circled in bright red on our calendars.
