Lamb of God axeman Mark Morton has ventured into solo territory, releasing a new effort titled "Snowbound." The timing is perfect given the blizzard that just battered the Northeast in the U.S., but unlike the winter storm, this song is more than welcoming! Lamb of God fans are in for quite the surprise as Morton displays his chops like never before.

Opening with a 10 second drum fill, all is revealed from the first note. Flipping his aggression switch, Morton clearly saves his pent up anger for Lamb of God because "SnowBound" is a full-blown fusion track. The song falls more in line with the playing of Allan Holdsworth than the metal-leaning Tony MacAlpine, especially with Clutch drummer Jean-Paul Gaster employing a powerful swing, yet careful enough not to overshadow his counterparts.

Morton posted the song on his Facebook page, adding, "Hey y'all! Here is sample of some of the new music I've been working on. It's definitely a little different than what you're used to hearing me do with Lamb. There are some great players involved in this project (including J.P. from Clutch on the drums!)." Noting his excitement, he exclaimed, "I'm having a blast working on this stuff, and that's what this is all about for me…FUN! I hope you enjoy it!"

If you're looking to catch Morton's heavier playing live, Lamb of God are in the midst of a North American headlining tour supporting their 2015 release, VII: Sturm und Drang. That disc recently made Loudwire's Top 20 Metal Albums of 2015. Support on the trek comes from Anthrax, Deafheaven and Power Trip and a list of dates can be found at our 2016 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.
