Lana Del Rey and Frances Bean Cobain Make Nice on Twitter

Relax, Frances — it was all a big misunderstanding. That, in a nutshell, was Lana Del Rey‘s Twitter message to the daughter of Kurt Cobain, who was understandably irate over comments Del Rey made in an interview with British newspaper the Guardian that seemed to glorify Cobain’s death.

In the interview, while discussing Cobain and Amy Winehouse, Del Rey was quoted as saying, “I wish I was dead already.” Del Rey has since claimed that the quote was taken out of context, but Frances Bean Cobain wasn’t buying it.

“The death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticize,” Cobain tweeted late Sunday, in a series of tweets that have since been deleted. “I’ll never know my father because he died young & it becomes a desirable feat because ppl like u think it’s ‘cool.'”

The only tweet Cobain left undeleted struck a more conciliatory note: “I’m not attacking anyone. I have no animosity towards Lana, I was just trying to put things in perspective from personal experience.”

Del Rey has now responded, also via Twitter, reiterating her stance that the Guardian quotes were taken out of context and expressing her admiration for Kurt Cobain’s talent, not the circumstances of his death.

None of the “I wish I was dead” controversy seems to be slowing down Del Rey’s sophomore album, ‘Ultraviolence,’ which came out last week and is expected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart. Here’s the title track:
