Linkin Park Serve Up Rap Metal + Children’s Jingle Samplings of Songs About Cup Noodles + More

Can music make food taste better or, at least, different? That’s what Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and the popular YouTube channel Good Mythical Morning attempted to figure out as they put the science to the test!

The show’s hosts tasked the rockers with performing a variety of different songs about an assortment of foods including Cup Noodles, Sour Patch Kids and Cheetos. For those still sour about Linkin Park veering into pop music, this video proves they still have the touch from the Hybrid Theory days.

Citing an Oxford study, it’s revealed that “volume correlates to flavor” and as the music gets quieter, it allegedly brings out more flavor in what’s being eaten. Bennington and Shinoda offered up a rap metal sampling of a song about Cup Noodles and the hosts feel the loud music was a distraction from the food as they were less mindful of the flavor.

To counter this approach, the Linkin Park members stripped it down for a quieter song and the hosts conceded that the Cup Noodles had more flavor this time around. Similar experiments were conducted to test the sweetness (Sour Patch Kids) and spiciness (Cheetos) of food as well. How did it turn out and what do these songs sound like? You’ll have to watch the rest of the video above to find out! There’s plenty of fun to be had along the way.

Bennington made headlines earlier this week when he spoke about the backlash the band has received for their new direction on the forthcoming album One More Light. After telling fans to “move the f–k on” from the band’s Hybrid Theory days, Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor cautioned the singer to “be fortunate for what you have.”
