Manual Or Automatic? What Your Transmission Choice Says About You [POLL]

Manual transmissions will always be my pick in any vehicle I drive -- I like the fact that I can pick the gear instead of the automatic transmission doing it for me. I get this from my dad. He taught me how to drive with a tractor on my grandma's ranch. He said that picking what speed you want is better on you and on the gas mileage. That was certainly true, back in the day, but with all the new high-performance engines now, automatic transmissions are easier on fuel than they used to be. Now it really is a matter of preference.

Driving purists tend to pick manuals -- they want to be in control and "at one" with their cars. Commuters, on the other hand, trend toward automatics. (You might develop strong thigh muscles with all that clutching on crowded freeways, but unless you have an automatic, you're also more at risk of developing ulcers!)
