Metallica Perform ‘…And Justice For All’ in Mexico City – Video of the Week
We could watch live Metallica videos all day long. Okay, okay, we already kind of do that. After watching hours and hours of videos, we found one that we can’t wait to feature today. In this Video of the Week, we take a trip to Mexico City where we get to go backstage to see Metallica in one of their epic pre-show practice sessions, this time jamming on the instrumental, ‘Orion.’ As they wrap up the session, we’re transported to the Sports Palace where the beginning of ‘…And Justice for All’ kicks off to the sound of screaming fans.
Being their 25th show of 2012, Metallica’s performance in Mexico City was one to remember for the thousands in attendance. Not only did they get to see a rare performance of ‘…And Justice for All’ (to date, it’s only been played a little more than 200 times), but this was also the string of dates where Metallica performed on their “all new, out of control, massive stage.” As you can tell from the video, that is a bit of an understatement.
As the band tears into ‘…And Justice for All,’ the stage crew immediately gets to constructing a gigantic Lady Justice statue. As the song nears its end, that statue is destroyed, living up to the powerful lyrics belted out by James Hetfield. If you don’t get goosebumps when you see the statue crumble, you aren’t human.
This was Metallica’s seventh show in Mexico City in an eight-show residency. The set for the Aug. 7 show included hits like ‘Creeping Death,’ ‘Sad But True’ and ‘Fade to Black,’ and was the first time the band played ‘No Remorse’ during their residency in Mexico City.
