Metallica frontman James Hetfield and bassist Robert Trujillo are appearing as characters in 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 HD Revert Pack' as part of new downloadable content for the game.

According to the press release, both Hetfield and Trujillo make surprise appearances as playable characters. So if you ever wanted to "be" the frontman for Metallica, or play bass for the band, even if for a few fleeting moments in video game form, now is your chance.

The digitally designed versions of the musicians are spot on, as you can see from the photos above. The designers captured all the key visual elements of Hetfield, recently anointed one of the richest vocalists in rock music, from his all-black ensembles to his wristbands to his tattoos. They also did a bang up job with capturing Trujillo's always-expressive face.

In addition to the Hetfield and Trujillo avatars, the Metallica song 'All Nightmare Long,' which was the fifth single from 'Death Magnetic,' has been added to the game. So you can play Hetfield and Trujillo and you can crank the volume on one of their more recent tracks.

Skateboading and metal have always enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship and here is just another example of how. 'Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 HD Revert Pack' will be released Dec. 4 for Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network and Steam for $4.99.
