Volunteers from the Yakima Police Department, OIC of Washington, Henry Beauchamp Community Center, Yakima School District, NAACP Yakima Chapter and YWCA of Yakima have assembled a powerful lineup for the 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.

If you wish to attend the Peace March on Monday (Jan 21), participants will begin gathering at 11:30 a.m. at the corner of South Fifth Avenue and MLK Jr. Boulevard.

The Peace March begins at noon and will proceed down MLK Jr. Boulevard to the Yakima Convention Center, 10 N. Eighth St.

After the march, a carefully curated program honoring Dr. King begins at 1 p.m. inside the Convention Center. Yakima Transit is providing free bus shuttle rides back to the starting point on South Fifth Avenue.

Following the Convention Center program, the Henry Beauchamp Community Center, 1211 S. Seventh St., is hosting a free soup kitchen for the public.

Prior to the Peach March, there will be a community worship service at Central Lutheran Church, 1602 W. Yakima Ave., at 3 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 20).

Members of the public are also invited to watch the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. annual basketball tournament at the OIC of Washington Gymnasium, 1001 N. Ninth Ave., from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday (Jan. 18) and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 19).
