Brutalities have returned in Mortal Kombat X, as NetherRealm cranks up the gore while giving us an in-depth look at Cassie Cage's fighting styles.

The latest livestream of Mortal Kombat X features Tyler, Derek and Brian from NetherRealm Studios explaining Cassie Cage's variations and introducing Brutalities to the game. Cassie Cage's three fighting styles pay homage to her parents, MK vets Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. The Hollywood style has Cassie wearing her dad's stunner shades and able to do Shadow Kicks, split punches and more. During this variation, she can shoot her guns in the air (she can shoot her guns from the ground in all three styles). While using the Spec Ops style, Cassie can perform a variety of ranged attacks, dropping projectiles from flying droves onto various places on the battlefield and resulting in effective zoning. These missiles knock opponents into the air, which is the perfect pop-up for air combos. The Brawler version of Cassie focuses on an MMA-style of attack. Expect a lot of tackles, arm breaks and other kinds of UFC takedowns. The biggest surprise at the end of the Brawler demonstration was when Cassie's final ground-and-pound combo ended in a Brutality.

Brutalities are a bit different this time around than their previous incarnations. They used to be crazy combos ending with massive explosions, but these look to be more natural to Mortal Kombat X's combat system. Just watch the video and enjoy the blood.

The best part? Series creator and MKX Creative Director Ed Boon tweeted that there will be over 100 Brutalities in the game.

Mortal Kombat X will launch on April 14 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Those Brutalities are looking quite gnarly:
