Unlike Yakima to the west, the city of Moxee has lifted its ban on growing recreational marijuana.

Paul Weaver recently filed for a permit from the Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) to begin growing marijuana in his family's old warehouse that formerly housed dried flowers.

The city of Moxee, which still has a ban on the selling of weed, is expected to make growing legal within the city. A decision on taking it to market will likely be made in the next six months.

The Moxee area, known for its fertile soil perfect for growing hops, could see an economic boom with this decision -- especially if industrial hemp farms (recently permitted in a bill that passed in the House) begin to be planted.

Hemp (Cannabis sativa) and marijuana are closely related to hops.
