Assassin’s Creed doesn’t hit theaters until December, but it shouldn’t be much longer before the first trailer arrives to give us a proper sneak peek at what may very well be the first good video game movie. In the meantime, two new images have arrived featuring Michael Fassbender in both past and present settings — though his present state doesn’t look very optimistic.

20th Century Fox released the new photos (via Omelete), the first of which has Fassbender’s Callum Lynch placed in restraints, presumably preparing to have his genetic memories accessed — though it doesn’t look like he’s a willing participant. The second photo features Fassbender as his 15th century ancestor Aguilar, embroiled in some sort of battle:

Assassin’s Creed follows Lynch as he takes part in a revolutionary technology that allows him to access genetic memories and live as his ancestor, a member of a secret order of assassins that have been fighting a shadowy war with the Knights Templar for centuries. The skills and knowledge Lynch acquire in the past will help him continue to fight that battle in the present.

Fassbender re-teams with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel and co-star Marion Cotillard for the adaptation, which also stars Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson. Assassin‘s Creed hits theaters on December 21.
