When it was announced that Nickelback would perform during halftime of the Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions NFL game on Thanksgiving Day in Detroit, a group of ‘Back haters started an online petition seeking a different act for entertainment. It’s just the latest in a steady stream of disses directed at the band — yet despite all the Nickelback bashing that goes on, the band members’ feelings don’t seem hurt in the slightest.

“We get that all the time,” frontman Chad Kroeger tells Billboard.com. “We’ve never really [have] been a critics’ darling or anything like that. The people speak. We sell a lot of records and fill a lot of arenas, and we don’t hear many complaints.”

So, while that Thanksgiving concert petition ended up getting more than 55,000 signatures, Nickelback shot back with a hilarious Funny or Die clip mocking the whole thing — and then went on to play the game without a hitch.

The band released a new album titled ‘Here and Now’ last week, but Nickelback don’t have any delusions about making some grand artistic statement with the disc.

“This isn’t our ‘The Wall’ or anything like that,” Kroeger says of ‘Here and Now,’ referencing the classic Pink Floyd album. “This is just four guys jumping back in the studio to write and record 11 new songs and make sure each one of them gets as much attention as they need.”

And with each new album, Nickelback themselves are bound to get plenty of attention — some good, some bad. Either way, Kroeger and the boys seem ready to rock.
