We've all seen the signs warning of falling rocks down many Washington roadways, but sometimes conditions increase the danger.

Which is the case right here in our community.

The Yakima County Office of Emergency Management issued a falling rock warning Thursday and closed the Thorp Road.

The road closed runs along the Yakima River, to the east of Union Gap. State geologists will continue monitoring movement of the hillside with apparently rather alarming cracks at the top of Rattlesnake Ridge.

It was a quick decision that caught some off guard, despite crews watching the area closely since October.
